Durban 2012

From the Drakensburg we ventured down to South Africa's east coast to durban and Zinkwazee. We experienced a mixture of good and bad weather. We arrived late morning and decided to take a drive down to the city to check out the Moses Mabhida stadium at which you can take the lift to the top of the arch as  well as bungee from the arch. We took the tame route and enjoyed a spectacular view of Durban.

The following day we went to the Durban Botanical. It is a truly beautiful and peaceful place and very well looked after. I highly recommend stopping in on a sunny day to take a break from the beach if you are in Durbs.

We then went an hour north of Durban to Zinkwazee, just past Balito. It is a quiet little corner of paradise with a beatiful beach.

Drakensberg & Durban December 2012 (2)

Beautiful Highmore view looking south east over the Drakensberg

The hike back to the Car the next day saw us have a close encounter with a baby puffadder. Sometimes you just have to admit that someone up there is truly looking out for you,

Drankensberg & Durban December 2012

December 2012 saw us back in the Drakensberg but this time with a truly adventurous spirit. It was decided that we would camp out in a cave in the Highmore region of the Drakensberg. Surprisingly it was colder this trip in summer, than it was in July. That didn't deter us and on we went.

Drakensberg July 2012 (2)

Following the Royal Natal park  we moved south to Champagne valley where we did a short hike at the base of Monks Cowl. Mid winter saw the tops of the mountains with a light layering of snow. the following day we watched a birds of prey show during which Roque the black eagle disappeared to the south of the Drakensberg.

Drakensberg July 2012

The Drakensberg is a serene and calming place. On this trip we started our adventure off in the North of the Drakensberg at the Royal Natal park. We did about a 10 hr hike that was fair relaxed, the most difficult part was going up the "crack", a tough rocky climb ending with a chain ladder but well worth it.

Pilansberg November 2011

We start off with a trip to Pilansberg. We were lucky enough to see two lions sightings as well as a number of Elephant herds. Pilansberg is a small park in which you should be able to spot a wide variety of animals.

Introduction

I have been privileged enough to travel a fair amount around South Africa. We have such a beautiful country and I have loved taking photos and truly experiencing everything. I have started this blog to share a couple of my photos. I hope you enjoy if by some random chance you would find my blog.

I would also like to dedicate this blog to Michelle. I do and always will love you. You hold a very very special place in my heart. You changed my life for better and for always. The adventures we had were second to none and I couldn't have asked for anyone better to experience it with. Its my joy and privilege to have my hand held by you through our adventures. I hope and pray that all the happiness in the world will find you. Thank you so much for being you Michelle.
